Product Development Project (Honors Course) – .50 Credit, Grade 12, Prerequisite: Application and selection process , see description below

PDP is a project-based internship partnering Homestead High School and Kelch Corporation. Students meet daily for one semester during 1st and 2nd periods. They work in teams of 3 or 4. Each team is given a concept for a new product which they take through a comprehensive product development cycle. A broad range of "real-life" business issues (forming teams, coordination of action, adding structure to unstructured tasks, networking) and concepts ( business use of the internet; market research and analysis; product design, safety and manufacturing; product costing and pricing; product promotion) are taught and are integrated into the process. The Microsoft Office suite of programs is utilized for word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications. Enrollment is limited and competitive in nature. Interested students will be expected to complete an application for the course and be interviewed. Faculty input will be considered as well.
