Academics
Gifted & Talented

The goal of the district’s gifted and talented programming is to discover and nurture students' gifts and talents. The district clearly delineates who our students are that receive more intensive support through gifted and talented services.  These provisions may change for individual students over time depending on the student's needs and readiness level.  A major focus of the district’s gifted and talented personnel is to ensure our teachers are able to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of the learners in their classes. In addition to differentiation for learning style and interest, that can mean flexible grouping, tiered assignments, or even individualized work with students to help them to grow.

Destination Imagination Opportununity

I am excited to share with you that this year MTSD is excited to introduce an extracurricular activity called Destination Imagination for students in grades 4K-5th. This extracurricular activity is for students who are interested in puzzles, building anything out of cardboard boxes, thinking up whimsical new worlds, drama and acting or is totally into science. Destination Imagination is a task based extracurricular activity that teaches students real world skills such as creativity, teamwork, and problem solving skills through stem and fine arts centered challenges. Teams are made up of a minimum of 2 students and a maximum of 6 students. This is a great opportunity for all of our Gifted and Talented students. It allows for them to express their creativity, their abstract thinking and continues to strengthen their collaborative skills.
