What qualifications are required in order to substitute teach?
Substitute teachers must have either a teaching license from the Wisconsin DPI or a bachelors degree from a college/university. (If bachelors degree, MTSD will provide endorsement for a substitute teaching license.)
Can a substitute teacher indicate specific preferences and availability?
Substitute teachers have choice and flexibility in the following:
- Preferred ages/grades
- Preferred building(s)
- Content area preferencessuch as math, art, world languages, etc.
- Days (or half days) and frequency they wish to be available
How much are substitute teachers compensated?
Daily assignments are paid at $100/day or $50/half-day. After a sub works 15 days in MTSD, the rates increase to $115/day or $62.50/half-day.
