Message from Dr. Means, Superintendent

It is my sincere honor to welcome you to the Mequon-Thiensville School District. We are proud of the great accomplishments achieved by our students and staff.

We firmly believe that we are the premier K-12 educational organization in the Milwaukee Metropolitan Area, whether in reference to private or public institutions.

The district has been recognized annually as one of the best school districts in the state based on results of the ACT and state assessments. Evidence of our academic excellence is based on a composite ACT result of 25.4 for the Class of 2009. Over 95% of our students attend two-year or four-year colleges or universities. Nearly 80% of our faculty hold a master’s degree.

The Mequon-Thiensville School District is a district consisting of six schools (three elementary schools, two middle schools and one comprehensive high school).

The district is proud of the different instructional options available to students. Students at the Fourth and Fifth grade level have the opportunity to begin musical instruction in the area of Orchestra or Band. Our math curriculum is regarded as one of the best in the state of Wisconsin. The vast majority of our students complete Algebra by Eighth grade.

The district offers world language instruction in Spanish, German and French at the middle school level. The district continues to offer an array of world languages at the high school level. These languages include Latin, Spanish, German, and French.

The district is also proud of our innovative, hands-on science curriculum at the Kindergarten through Eighth grade level. The district has introduced a new pre-engineering curriculum - Project Lead the Way - for middle school and high school students.

Students also have the ability to pursue co-curricular and athletic opportunities in the district. Our students have excelled on the athletic field as well as in the area of fine arts. We are most proud of our back-to-back State Champion Girls' Tennis Team. The band, orchestra, and choral programs offered by the district are regarded as among the elite in the State of Wisconsin.

We are committed to producing students who are prepared to grab the mantle of leadership in the 21st century. As a result, the district has developed a cutting-edge information technology curriculum that clearly outlines high expectations for student technology skill levels starting in the primary grades of Kindergarten and First grade.

The school district is nestled in the City of Mequon and Village of Thiensville. The two communities are ideal places to raise children and the community strongly supports education.

Continued growth of the Mequon-Thiensville Education Foundation is evidence of the great community support of our schools. We also have parents who actively advocate for public education in the political forum through the Alliance for Strong Mequon-Thiensville Schools.

The district is focused on continuous improvement and enhancement of our educational product for our students. As a result, the district has established three specific district goals. The goals are:

Goal 1:  The Mequon-Thiensville School District will continually evaluate and improve its curriculum, instructional practices and assessment tools so that all students demonstrate academic growth relevant to our ever-changing world.

Goal 2:  The Mequon-Thiensville School District will continually embrace a shared leadership model, which supports the growth of educational leaders including: faculty, staff, administration, parents and community.

Goal 3:  The Mequon-Thiensville School District will continue to foster a climate that honors diversity, attempts to instill goodness in all children, and upholds shared goals and values.

In my humble opinion, the Mequon-Thiensville School District is the best option in southeast Wisconsin. We have caring teachers who provide an interesting and informative classroom environment for children.

I am confident that when you compare our district to any private, parochial or public K-12 educational organization, you will quickly realize why Mequon-Thiensville is regarded as one of the best school districts in the nation.

Thank you!

  Dr. Means
