Megan Aswegan, elementary orchestra director in the Mequon-Thiensville School District, has been honored by Civic Music Association with a Certificate of Excellence in Instrumental Music Instruction. Aswegan was nominated by parents, colleagues and students for this recognition.
Aswegan has been the elementary orchestra director in MTSD since 2002. In this role, Aswegan provides students with a comprehensive music performance experience that includes weekly large ensemble rehearsals as well as small group, individual lessons.
"Our students are fortunate to have such a dedicated educator,” said Joey Sulsberger, principal of Wilson Elementary School. “Ms. Aswegan has devoted her time time and passion to helping develop young musicians, and this is a well-deserved recognition for her."
In the Mequon-Thiensville School District, the elementary orchestra program begins in fourth grade offering violin, viola, cello and bass. MTSD is the only public school district in Ozaukee County to offer an orchestra program for elementary school students.
“I’m honored to receive this award and have many coworkers, students and parents to thank for the success of the orchestra program in MTSD,” said Aswegan. “I truly enjoy inspiring young musicians to work hard and focus on success both individually and as a collective group. The elementary orchestra students excitement, persistence and dedication inspires me daily.”
