Meetings

The Mequon-Thiensville School District Board of Education is now conducting hybrid meetings.

This format allows those viewing the meeting remotely the same level of participation as those attending in-person. Allowing for equal access to the meeting by all participants, regardless of in-person or virtual attendance, is a priority for the Board and we look forward to ensuring all members of the public are able to participate in meetings in their preferred format.

Please note: Advance registration is no longer required to join a Board of Education meeting virtually. Zoom links to meetings will now be posted on the meeting schedule below. There is no passcode required.

Public Comment During Zoom Video Conference Meetings

Public participation in school board meetings is governed under Board Policy 9125.

The board recognizes the value of participation by the public in deliberations and decisions on school district matters. The public is welcome to participate under guidelines designed to enable the board to conduct the business before it, and to complete the planned agenda.

During regular or special business meetings, a member of the public may provide comment under the agenda item Citizen Communication and Comments, or after a Discussion Item is presented to the board.

During Working Board Meetings

Participants outside of members of the board of education and the superintendent of schools are asked to keep their personal video turned off, with the following exception: A member of the district’s administrative team is presenting a report or recommendation to the board.
Per Board Policy 166, working meetings do not include public comment unless otherwise noted.

Please note, the meeting audio for all participants will be managed by the host of the meeting.

During Regular or Special Business Meetings

Participants outside of members of the board of education and the superintendent of schools are asked to keep their personal video turned off, with the following exceptions:

A member of the district’s administrative team is presenting a report or recommendation to the board of education.
A member of the public has submitted the appropriate information in accordance with Board Policy 9125: Public Participation in School Board Meetings (see Public Participation below).

Please note, the meeting audio for all participants will be managed by the host of the meeting

During Closed Session

What is the Process for Public Comment if Attending a Meeting Virtually?

If a member of the public wishes to provide comment during a virtual regular or special business meeting of the board, participants are asked to take the following steps in accordance with Board Policy 9125: Public Participation in School Board Meetings:

Join the virtual school board meeting following the instructions provided in BoardDocs. Contact Amanda Sievers at asievers@mtsd.k12.wi.us with any issues.
At the onset of the meeting, community members who wish to speak on any topic must fill out a virtual registration card using the “Chat” feature in Zoom. Submit notice using this feature to Amanda Sievers. Notice should include community member's name, address, the name of the group represented (if any), and the subject to be covered or the issue to be addressed.
At the time provided on the agenda for public comment, registered community members will be asked to start their personal video and the host of the meeting will enable audio to allow for full participation.
The president shall limit the amount of time allotted for individual comment to no more than three minutes duration per each agenda item.

Regular Business Meetings

The board holds a regular business meeting at least once each month on a date and at a time and place determined annually. In general, the board of education holds its regular business meetings on the third Monday of each month. Meetings are typically held in the Range Line Conference Room and begin at 7 p.m. Please check the posted meeting schedule to verify time and location.

Working Meetings

The board also holds working meetings to study topics in greater depth. No formal action is taken during work sessions of the board. Working meetings are generally held on the first Monday of each month and begin at 6 p.m. Working meetings are also typically held in the Range Line Conference Room. Additional Special Business or Closed Session meetings are scheduled as needed.

Can the public attend board meetings?

Can the public make comments in meetings of the board?

Public comment shall occur at a time as defined on the agenda of a Regular Business Meeting or Special Meeting under the agenda item Citizen Communication and Comments.

Working Board Meetings, which present the board’s opportunity to give feedback to the administration on topics under development and prior to any formal presentation, will not include the opportunity for public participation. Closed Meetings will not contain space for public comment as stipulated under Wisconsin statute.
