Donges Bay Elementary School
On Wednesday, November 18, the Mequon-Thiensville School District announced that, due to a limited availability of staff members who are able to participate in on campus learning, Donges Bay Elementary would be shifting to a distance learning scenario for all students, effective Thursday, November 19.
The challenge in staffing has not been attributed to exposure from within our building though as of today (11/18), we have over 20% of our staff members unavailable for in-person instruction.
The safety and wellbeing of students and staff members remains our highest priority as we navigate this public health crisis and we believe the safest path forward is to temporarily close Donges Bay Elementary School from on campus learning.
Educators at Donges Bay Elementary School are prepared to provide a high-quality distance learning experience for our students. Teacher(s) or a member of Donges Bay's administrative team will follow up with more details soon.We continue to follow sound protocols aligned with guidance and support from local health officials to ensure we are doing everything we can to protect the health of our students and staff members.
We expect on campus learning to resume for our students on Tuesday, December 1, 2020. This will depend on our ability to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19, and the availability of our students and staff members. We will provide regular updates as we continue to monitor the situation.
The decision to temporarily close Donges Bay from on campus instruction was made following a review of the school's data associated with the availability of students and staff members. As a school and district, we have a responsibility to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students and educators. A temporary shift to distance learning is important in our concerted efforts to stop the spread of the virus. This is a temporary closure and we expect to resume on campus learning on Tuesday, December 1.
All K-8 buildings in the district, including Donges Bay, will be undergoing a planned deep-cleaning on Monday, November 30. This is a No School Day for students.
