Homestead - Effective Tuesday, October 27

On Monday, October 26 the Mequon-Thiensville School District announced that, due to an increased number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and a delay in the reporting of positive cases from the Washington Ozaukee Health Department, Homestead High School would be shifting to a distance learning scenario for all students, effective Tuesday, October 27.

Update: Extended Closure Announced on 10/27

As positive cases at Homestead continued to be reported throughout October 26 and 27, it was determined that distance learning would be extended until November 9.

Temporarily shifting to distance learning in response to school-based cases of COVID-19 is important in our concerted efforts to stop the spread of the virus. Educators at Homestead High School are prepared to provide a high-quality distance learning experience for our students. Teacher(s) or a member of Homestead's administrative team will follow up with more details soon.

The safety and wellbeing of students and staff members remains our highest priority as we navigate this public health crisis and we believe the safest path forward is to temporarily close Homestead High School from on campus learning. We continue to follow sound protocols aligned with guidance and support from local health officials to ensure we are doing everything we can to protect the health of our students and staff members.

This closure will last until at least Monday, November 9, 2020. Our ability to return to on campus learning will depend on updated information from the Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department, our ability to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19, and the availability of our students and staff members. We will provide regular updates as we continue to monitor the situation.

Updates

Distance Learning Extended - 10/27
Currently, over 20% of our students participating in on campus instruction have been affected by COVID-19 and are unavailable to attend in-person, either due to testing positive for the virus or having to quarantine at home due to coming in close contact with a positive case. An extended period of school closure is important in our efforts to stop the spread of the virus. Our temporary closure from on campus learning will extend through next week, with an expected return on November 9, 2020.

Deep Cleaning - 10/26

Today, Homestead High School staff worked remotely during the district wide in-service to allow our buildings and grounds department and cleaning staff to deep clean the building. All areas of the building were cleaned and disinfected, with a focus on frequently touched surfaces. This was a planned cleaning, and not in response to the recent rise in positive COVID-19 cases.
