From the day a child is born the countdown begins. We have a short time to do the critically important job of preparing each child to take on the world. It is the reason the Mequon-Thiensville School District exists—to launch our children to a promising future.
We are committed to working collaboratively to create the conditions for a coherent and aligned 4K-12 continuum of education for all students. The following provides an overview of our organization's core commitments.
- Academic & Career Planning
- Continuous Improvement
- Exemplary Student Achievement
- Fiscal Stability & Responsibility
- Growing Professional Capacity
- High Quality Instruction
- Opportunity & Equity
- School Safety
- Strategic Planning
Our Academic and Career Planning program, or ACP, authentically engages students in developing their future identity by providing meaningful experiences and making learning connections to build confidence, gain focus, and develop the passion that informs their career pathway. Our objective is that students will develop their sense of internal motivation and a vision for their future so that each student graduates with a sense of purpose, capable of taking advantage of vast opportunities to reach his or her career aspirations.
We foster successful and sustainable change by building a collective purpose, collaborating to analyze data and design improvement efforts, growing individual and system capacity to accelerate improvement and support innovation, and by setting measurable goals to guide improvement efforts. Improvement goals are aligned at the district, school, team, and individual levels.
We achieve our mission through the implementation of systems and processes that engage staff in improvement efforts. These efforts are grounded in data-informed analysis and research-based actions to attain and surpass measurable goals, aligned with desired outcomes. The district has established systems to help principals, school leadership teams, and district administrators establish and reaffirm a shared purpose for teaching and learning with an ultimate goal of continuous improvement.
As students move through their 4K-12 academic careers, they strive for and reach a number of key milestones. We have identified seven milestones that benchmark our efforts in ensuring that all students will experience college and future career success. Our Milestones for College and Career Success include measurable outcomes that allow us to monitor student progress in preparing for postsecondary success. Our goal is that when students graduate from high school, they have the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in postsecondary education. Each milestone is rigorous, encouraging our students to develop higher-level thinking and problem-solving skills.
Business services staff members work in concert with district administrators and staff, the board of education, government agencies, and other individuals and groups to ensure the highest degree of safeguarding and transparency of the public's assets. The Mequon-Thiensville School District has been affirmed at the highest rating possible, Aaa, by the bond rating agency Moody's, making the district one of only four in the state to hold the top rating. This bond rating is attributed in part to the district's strength in fiscal oversight.
Educators are our most valuable asset in achieving our mission. We invest in our educational professionals by growing their professional capacity through the creation of systems and structures which ensure that we are working together to determine how each student learns best and incorporating this into our collaborative efforts to analyze data, design proactive instruction, and select effective strategies for all learners.
High quality instruction requires a systems approach to the process. Our students are inspired and supported by exceptional educators who are dedicated to building momentum and propelling students forward.
We are responsible for the futures of all students, regardless of background, home situation, or family resources. We believe that every student can learn and achieve at high levels. Our commitment to success for every student is rooted in the ideals of both equity and excellence. Educators continue to work toward high achievement for all by striving to personalize teaching and learning so that each student has what he or she needs in order to succeed. We embrace a culture of equity and actively work to grow educators' capacity to serve each student according to his or her needs.
Parents entrust schools not only with their child’s intellectual development and social growth, but also with their child’s safety and well‐being during the school day. Safeguarding the members of our school communities—our students and staff members—is of the utmost importance to us. To that end, we have established protocols and procedures for the prevention of, preparedness for, and response to emergency situations.
The Mequon-Thiensville School District is guided by a strategic plan that unifies our efforts across our school district and its six schools. From beginning through graduation, our student experiences are consistent, measurable, and focused on academic excellence.
