The Milwaukee North Shore Rotary Club recognizes students in our area who demonstrate leadership with the “Service Above Self” Award.
Homestead High School is proud to announce that junior Caroline Oberneder is a recipient of the award. Student selection is based on commitment to community, impeccable character, and high academic potential.
“We are proud of Caroline for her outstanding contributions to our school,” said Eric Ebert, Principal of Homestead High School. “She goes above and beyond to create a positive environment for others and her overall spirit of inclusivity embodies the characteristics of a Mighty Highlander. Simply put, Caroline makes Homestead a better place for all.”
The Mequon-Thiensville School District is proud to announce that fourteen student artists received accolades for their visual artwork through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Under the direction of teachers Melinda Plamann (Steffen and Lake Shore Middle Schools), Kat Hustedde, Katie Nowak, and Gina Ruchalski (Homestead High School), students from Steffen Middle School and Homestead High School received ten Gold Keys, one Silver Keys, and seventeen Honorable Mentions. Especially notable this year is Elsa Heinrich’s Gold Key for her Senior Portfolio, an accomplishment achieved by only five other students in the region and a first for Homestead High School.
Mr. Andrew Sarnow was recently announced as the Mequon-Thiensville School District’s next Executive Director of Business Services following Ms. Sarah Viera's resignation after nearly ten years of dedicated service. The MTSD Board of Education approved Mr. Sarnow’s hire during its regular business meeting on Monday, December 16, and his first official day with MTSD will be Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Andrew was selected from a highly qualified pool of candidates after a rigorous interview process that engaged three dedicated teams of stakeholders. These teams included District administrators, staff, and community members, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of each candidate’s experience, vision, and alignment with MTSD’s values.
The Mequon-Thiensville School District has achieved a ranking of “Significantly Exceeds Expectations” on the 2023-2024 District Report Cards issued in November 2024 by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) with an overall score of 83.1. The district's ranked score is the 10th highest, or in the top 3%, among 367 K-12 public school districts in the state. MTSD has significantly exceeded expectations in all ten years that the District Report Cards have been produced.
This achievement is a reflection of the collective dedication of our students, staff, families, and community. While there are many ways to measure and rank a school district, we are consistently appreciative of the unwavering commitment and collaboration that make a positive impact on our children’s growth and learning. We are deeply grateful for everyone who plays a part in shaping our shared achievements.
Voters in the Mequon-Thiensville School District (MTSD) approved a $26.4 million operational referendum by a margin of 52% yes to 48% no - the first approved operational referendum in the school district’s history - to maintain and sustain the district’s operations. This decision reflects the community's commitment to investing in our high-quality public education system and supporting the needs of our students and staff members.
