Transportation

The district transports resident students to public and non-public schools, to and from the school of attendance, as determined by the district. In lieu of providing transportation, the district may also provide reimbursement to parents who transport their resident children to non-public schools located within five (5) miles of district boundaries. The rate of reimbursement is determined annually according to a statutory formula.

Our transportation partner, Go Riteway, prepares bus routes each year in consultation with the Mequon-Thiensville school District based on school start and end times and student population densities. These routes are approved by the school board or its designee, the executive director of Business Services.

You will be asked to include your bus utilization plans during the online enrollment process for the upcoming school year. Bus route information for the upcoming school year, including pick-up and drop-off times and locations, will be available to families in Infinite Campus portal accounts in August.

Students in grades 1-8 may be expected to walk one-quarter mile, and students in grades 9-12 may be expected to walk one-half mile. The executive director of Business Services is given discretion in determining if these distances are appropriate, and may specify shorter or longer distances in certain cases. Buses will not be routed into dead-end streets, private drives, cul-de-sacs, or courtyards, subject to the above distance unless the executive director of Business Services determines that a hazardous walking condition exists and a safe and adequate turnaround area is provided for the bus.

Along with home-to-school and school-to-home services, the Mequon-Thiensville School District offers additional transportation options to provide flexibility to our families. Students may be picked up and/or delivered to a point other than their designated home bus stop if certain criteria are met. Families may choose one bus stop location for arrival (pick up), and one bus stop location for dismissal (drop-off). Exceptions may be considered if there is legal documentation that would warrant such consideration. Please contact your school office if you feel this exception applies to you.

We provide elementary-aged student pick-up and drop-off bus service to the following community daycare facilities:

We require students to conduct themselves while on a school bus in a manner consistent with established standards for classroom behavior. The rules established are necessary to assist the bus drivers transport children safely.

1. Students are to be at pick-up points on time and follow the directions of the bus driver for loading and unloading.
2. Students are to keep hands, arms, legs, and objects to themselves.
3. Loud talking, swearing, and profanity are prohibited.
4. Students are to keep the bus clean and free from damage.

Student supervision is the responsibility of the bus driver. Drivers will report any student misconduct to the terminal manager, who will report the misconduct to the appropriate school building principal. Students who do not follow the rules will be subject to any or all of the following consequences:

1. Warning and assigned seat on bus
2. Conference with principal and warning letter to parents
3. Suspension of bus privilege as determined by principal

The Mequon-Thiensville School District has approved the use of video cameras on all school buses for the primary purpose of reducing disciplinary problems and vandalism on the bus and thereby, allowing the driver to focus on the driving of the bus and providing for safer transportation of students. The viewing and use of any videotaped materials shall be in accordance with district policy 7440.01: Video Surveillance and Electronic Monitoring.
