Mequon-Thiensville School District

MTSD's Strategic Plan

Our strategic plan, which is updated every three to five years, is a critical tool in guiding our district’s mission, vision, and strategic direction, unifying efforts across our organization.

We launched a comprehensive strategic planning process in fall 2017 with an end goal to establish our 2018-2021 strategic plan. Following a comprehensive updating process, the 2021-2024 Strategic Plan was approved by the Board of Education and released in April 2021.

Looking Ahead

With the 2021-2024 MTSD Strategic Plan set to close after this school year, the Board included strategic planning in its goals for the 2023-24 school year. Beginning in August 2023, the Board engaged in discussions to provide direction for the process, timeline, and format for the development of the next MTSD Strategic Plan. To determine the best option or course of action, a TregoED Decision Analysis was used to guide the discussions and determine the next steps.

Strategic Plan Update for 2024-2025

Recognizing the complex issues currently being managed by school district leaders, including the need to solve a sizeable budget deficit for the 2024-25 school year, it was determined the best option for the development of the MTSD Strategic Plan was for the Board, as liaisons for the public, to review the current Strategic Plan. In their review, Board Members have considered the objectives associated with the existing Strategic Plan Goals.

To inform the Board's review of the current strategic plan objectives, a SWOT analysis for each of the five strategic goals was shared at the Board's January 22, 2024 Business Meeting, and the corresponding objectives were reviewed and discussed by the Board. With feedback from the January meeting, the MTSD Administration engaged the Board in further discussion of the strategic plan objectives including recommendations for revisions at the February 5, 2024 Working Meeting, February 26, 2024 Business Meeting, and the March 4, 2024 Working Meeting.

During their March 18, 2024 Business Meeting, the Board approved the following updated objectives and measurable targets for the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan. Following the Board's approval of the Strategic Plan Goals and Objectives, the MTSD administration will develop another year (Year 4) of action items in alignment with the Goals and Objectives to be carried out during the 2024-2025 school year.
