Introducing New Business Coursework

In November, the MTSD Board of Education approved the addition of two new middle school Business Education electives, expanding elective opportunities for students beginning next school year. This exciting change is part of a long-term effort to strengthen aligned 7–12 pathways and follows the retirement of Mrs. Karen Ogier, whose dedicated service created a natural moment to reimagine our elective offerings for the future.

The new business courses are modern, hands-on, and project-based, helping students build skills such as leadership, communication, financial literacy, problem-solving, entrepreneurship, and digital creation while exploring career interests. This shift creates a pathway that mirrors other middle school electives and prepares students for success in high school and beyond. Importantly, the 6th grade Personal Finance elective will continue as part of the wheel and will now be taught by our new Business Education teacher, ensuring students still gain critical money-management skills early on.
