Destination Imagination
Purpose of Destination Imagination at MTSD:
To provide our students experiences and challenges to explore their creativity through STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math).
What does DI look like at MTSD?
- Students work in teams of no more than 7 to solve some sort of challenge.
- Challenges can be in STEAM, Improv, Visual Arts, or Service Learning and are decided on by the team.
- Student teams are created of grade-similar peers.
- Teams practice some improv problem-solving to prepare for an "Instant Challenge". This is where teams have about 5-8 minutes to solve a problem on the spot.
- Each team is overseen by a Team Manager, who is a parent(s) volunteer. The role of the Team Manager is to facilitate and support students during the problem-solving process.
- Teams meet weekly to work towards a solution to their problem, make props, and practice Instant Challenges.
- There is a Regional Tournament in March where all teams perform and if they do well, the team advances to a State Tournament in April. From State, there is also an opportunity to advance to Globals in May. Every team member is an invaluable asset to the whole team and is required at every practice and tournament date.
