Student Engagement & School Perceptions Survey
MTSD educators promote positive school environments to foster student well-being, as research links high student engagement to improved wellness (social, emotional, and mental health) and academic success. Engaged students who feel safe are more likely to achieve academically. To support this, students in grades 4-12 complete an annual student engagement survey each spring, aligned with Goal 2 of MTSD's strategic plan, which focuses on collaboration and relationships to enhance safety, connectedness, and well-being.
MTSD contracts with School Perceptions LLC for this annual survey to measure school climate and engagement across seven indicators: Connectedness, Drive, Citizenship/Leadership, Preparation, Social & Emotional Aptitude, Wellness, and Academics & Career Planning. The data informs Milestone 7, which tracks the percentage of students (Grades 4-12) who achieve an average engagement score of 3.75 or higher (on a 5.0 scale). The goal is to maintain a score of 3.5 or above, and School Perceptions LLC provides comparison data from similar districts.
