Recruiting Now: Be Part of the FUN Behind the Fall 2026 Wilson Wacky Whoosh Fun Run!

Want to help create one of the most exciting days of the year for our Wilson students?The Wilson Wacky Whoosh Fun Run is our biggest fundraiser - raising important funds for our school and teachers - but it’s also a day full of school spirit, laughter, and Wildcat pride! Here’s the honest truth: This event cannot happen without volunteers and we need YOUR help to make this event amazing. Even a small amount of time can make a big difference. We’re recruiting now so we can start planning before summer and lighten the load this fall!

Open roles include:


Student Experience & Incentives Coordinator - Help keep the Fun Run fun, motivating, and memorable! Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the PTO Board with planning the kickoff and celebration assemblies

  • Identifying creative ways to promote and incentivize students and classes around our Wacky Whoosh theme

  • Helping plan and organize classroom prizes, individual rewards, and school-wide incentives

Great for someone who: Loves making events exciting for kids and can bring the “FUN” to the Fun Run! Most work can be done on your own time, but in coordination with the PTO Board. Day-of availability is not required.


Communications & Sign-Up Lead - Help build excitement and keep families informed! Responsibilities include:

  • Creating flyers, email/Wilson Weekly content, and social media posts

  • Sending reminder communications to families and staff

  • Coordinating school announcements and countdowns

  • Creating and managing Sign-Up Geniuses to secure volunteers for celebration events

Great for someone who: Is creative, detail-oriented, and enjoys keeping families engaged and informed. Complete flexibility on when work gets done. Day-of availability is not required.


Fun Run Set-Up & Volunteer Coordinator - Help make the event run smoothly from start to finish! Responsibilities include:

  • Designing the course layout and finalizing the schedule for grade-level run times

  • Determining and securing equipment (inflatables, cones, tables, etc.)

  • Determining volunteer needs and creating the day-of Sign-Up Genius

  • Planning the event-day music playlist

Great for someone who: Enjoys organizing, coordinating logistics, and connecting with others to make things happen. Ideally available on event day, but not required.

International Day -March 20th

Seeking volunteers for one of Wilson's most anticipated school events: International Day! This wonderful event celebrates the diversity of our school and helps students learn about other cultures around the world.

This year, International Day will take place on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 9:00 am-3:00 pm (includes lunch break for presenters with lunch provided by the PTO) at Wilson Elementary. We are looking for 8-10 presenters to share interesting facts, cultural stories, customs, photos, and pictures about your country to different classes throughout the day (presentations are approx. 5 minutes in length and will run throughout the day for various classes).

MADISON, WI — The Association of Wisconsin School Administrators has recognized Elizabeth Streubel as its 2026 Wisconsin Elementary Associate Principal of the Year. Streubel serves as assistant principal of Wilson Elementary in the Mequon-Thiensville School District.

She is known for her compassionate leadership, student-centered decision-making, and dedication to fostering a safe, inclusive, and joyful school community. Over the past three years as an assistant principal, she has led initiatives that strengthened student well-being, improved attendance, and enhanced staff morale through intentional relationship-building and restorative leadership.

“Elizabeth Streubel is a shining example of the heart and skill that define Wisconsin’s elementary school leaders,” said AWSA Executive Director Jim Lynch. “Her work at Wilson Elementary demonstrates how empathy, data-driven collaboration, and creativity can transform school culture. She leads with integrity, optimism, and a deep belief in every child’s potential.”

At Wilson Elementary, Streubel has cultivated a culture rooted in connection and care—greeting students each morning with high-fives, hugs, and encouragement to start the day with joy and belonging. Her innovative Bus of the Month program celebrates bus drivers and students who model respect, responsibility, and readiness to learn, resulting in significant reductions in bus-related behavioral incidents.

A former special education teacher, Streubel brings deep expertise in behavior intervention and inclusive practices. She has collaborated with staff to implement individualized supports, create restorative behavior plans, and strengthen family partnerships, helping reduce chronic absenteeism to just 3 percent—the school’s lowest rate in four years.

“Ms. Streubel is an indispensable part of the Wilson community,” said Principal Dr. Jocelyn Sulsberger. “She actively strives to cultivate an environment where all individuals feel safe, valued, and motivated to learn. Liz's dedication to nurturing young learners and supporting educators has had a positive impact on our school, and we are fortunate to call her a Wilson Wildcat.”

Streubel holds a master’s degree in special education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and is seeking an Ed.D. from Concordia University.

“Liz Streubel exemplifies what it means to lead with heart,” said MTSD Superintendent Dr. Matthew Joynt. “Her compassion, commitment to students, and unwavering support for staff and families make Wilson Elementary School a place where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired to grow.”

The Wisconsin Associate Principal of the Year program recognizes assistant and associate principals whose leadership has resulted in improved student learning, instructional collaboration, and a safe and positive school environment. Nominations are accepted from teachers, parents, principals, and others across Wisconsin.

Selection criteria include a commitment to personal excellence, collaborative leadership, personalization, curriculum, instruction and assessment, and serving as an established and respected community member. A committee representing teachers, superintendents, board members, parents, and the Department of Public Instruction reviews the applications and selects an AP of the year at the middle school and high school levels.

Considerable support comes from the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation. Streubel will be formally recognized at the Wisconsin Associate Principal Convention in January. She will also receive $1,000 for use on a project of her choice at Wilson Elementary School.

2nd Annual Wilson Community Service Pawject

This February we will again be collecting donations for the homeless at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission. With winter break and the holidays, it’s the perfect time to declutter and set aside any gently used warm winter clothing, shoes, and boots you no longer use or kids have outgrown to donate!

Items especially needed include:

Men's- long underwear (New), boxer briefs M-XL (New), winter coats S-L, 3X, deodorant, sweats 2-3X, shower shoes, belts.

Women's (New or Like-New)- deodorant, underwear (New, M), PJs.

Children's- Girl clothes (3T-5T), Girl and Boy winter coats (YXL, and size 7-8 Girls), boxer briefs (all sizes), diapers (Size 5-6), diaper bags, bottles, ankle socks, Girl shoes (10-12C), shoes 1-2Y.

General- scent-free soap/lotion, baby oil/powder/soap, vaseline, bedsheets, kleenex, full-sized towels, small kitchen appliances (toasters, microwaves, blenders, etc.)
