What qualifications are required in order to substitute teach?
Substitute teachers must have a teaching license from the Wisconsin DPI, a bachelor's degree from a college/university or an associates degree from a technical or community college. With a bachelors or associates degree, a prospective substitute teacher must complete a training course. Training courses are offered through CESA 1.
Can a substitute teacher indicate specific preferences and availability?
Substitute teachers have choice and flexibility in the following:
- Preferred ages/grades
- Preferred building(s)
- Content area preferences such as math, art, world languages, etc.
- Days (or half days) and frequency of availability
How much are substitute teachers compensated?
Daily assignments are paid at $125/day or $62.50/half-day.
