As part of the Mequon-Thiensville School District’s strategic plan, we strive to produce meaningful communication and engagement opportunities with all stakeholders to build strong relationships and trust across the school community. One of the ways we do this is to offer a variety of survey opportunities to our stakeholders to inform our planning and enhance the educational experience for all students and families while monitoring progress toward strategic goals.
All parents and guardians are invited to participate in the September Family Survey. This survey provides an opportunity to gather family feedback regarding the experience with the Mequon-Thiensville School District thus far in the school year. This information will help us continue to improve our approach to supporting students and their families as we prepare and plan to open our schools each year. Please click here to take the September Family Survey by the end of the day on Wednesday, October 7. Only one response per family is needed. After approximately two months of advertising, our second annual Community Survey closed at the conclusion of August. In total, we recorded 772 participants—representing approximately 3% of our community—and achieved a Community Net Promoter Score of 48, with 59% of respondents satisfied, 31% neutral/passive, and 11% dissatisfied.
Highlights from the 2026 Report:

Demographics & Residency: 60% of respondents are aged 35–54, and 83% reside in Mequon (17% in Thiensville). Furthermore, 78% of participants have lived in the District for 5 or more years.

Connection to MTSD: 57% of participants currently have children enrolled in MTSD schools, while 9% are community members who have never had children attend District schools.

Top Communication Channels: District and school websites (56%), e-newsletters (42%–49%), direct mailings (40%), and word-of-mouth through friends and neighbors (40%) serve as our community's main information sources.

Community Engagement: The District reported high levels of active engagement, led by school event attendance (68%), donations (46%), and volunteering (41%).

Partnering for Student Growth: Understanding Standards-Based Learning
As we continue our commitment to student success, we are excited to expand Standards-Based Learning (SBL) across our district! While SBL is now entering its second year in our elementary schools, it is being newly introduced to our middle school classrooms this year.
Standards-Based Learning provides a clearer, more accurate picture of your child’s academic growth and mastery of key skills. Instead of combining behavior, attendance, and extra credit into a single grade, SBL separates practice from achievement and focuses on what students know and can do relative to grade-level priority standards.

Our Board of Education had a busy and productive summer! Here are the key highlights and outcomes heading into the 2026-27 school year:
- Following July’s budget hearing, the Board approved a preliminary balanced budget of $72,560,678. Community members unanimously supported the budget and tax levy with a 16-0 vote.

Celebrated strong 2025-26 student achievement results presented by ECRA.

Reviewed comprehensive updates on employee benefits, policy revisions, and our strategic salary system.

The Legislative Committee reviewed WASB resolutions, UW-Madison student access, and legislative platform priorities.
Over three summer retreat sessions, Dr. Joynt and the Board set two primary goals for the year ahead:

Community Confidence & Trust: Fostering transparency, stewardship, advocacy, and strong stakeholder engagement.

Long-Range Master Planning: Updating our master plan (last developed in 2018-19) to reflect current enrollment, facility, instructional, and financial needs.

Join us for the Mequon-Thiensville Education Foundation’s 5th annual Trick-or-Trot Community 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, October 11 at Homestead High School! This family-friendly event celebrates fitness, community, Halloween, and all six of our MTSD schools. Wear your favorite Halloween costume and choose between the full 5K Run/Walk or the 1-Mile route, which features trick-or-treating stations along the path for kids!
School Competition: When you register, be sure to join your school’s mascot team or register as an individual. The school that raises the most money (registrations and donations combined) will win a special surprise VIP experience for their school!

12:15 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.: Check-in/Registration, music, photo ops with school mascots, and non-perishable food collection for Family Sharing

1:00 p.m.: Mascot Dash followed by the Kids' Halloween Costume Lap at the track

1:30 p.m.: 5K & 1-Mile Trick-or-Treat routes begin

Post-Race: Complimentary snacks and drinks at the Piggly Wiggly Recharge Station
