The MTSD Board of Education approved the 2027-28 instructional calendars during its regular business meeting on Monday, October 26, 2026. Calendar development began in early September with input from the District's Administrative Team, the District Calendar Committee, and our school community. The committee reviewed draft calendars, focusing on state requirements, holidays, professional development, community events, and alignment with District goals.
We are still finalizing the public-facing version of the calendars, which will be posted on the MTSD website in the coming days.

As we look toward the future of our schools, MTSD leaders have launched a comprehensive Long-Range Facilities Master Planning (LRFMP) process. Over the coming school year, this initiative will develop a 10-year roadmap that aligns our physical learning environments with our educational vision, operational needs, enrollment trends, and financial realities.
While recent renovations have modernized key spaces across our schools, we must proactively plan for the next decade of student and staff needs across all seven district facilities:
-
Instructional Spaces & Capacity: Assess how our classrooms and shared spaces support modern teaching practices, and evaluate building capacity and section needs (such as spatial capacity at Oriole Lane) using updated demographic data.
-
Capital Maintenance: Creating a predictable 10-year maintenance plan to maintain building mechanical systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing), structural envelopes, and safety infrastructure.
-
Fiscal Sustainability: Modeling adaptable financial scenarios that ensure operational stability across our school environments.
-
Athletic & Campus Facilities: Integrating high school athletic facility planning into our broader districtwide facility schedule.
Following a competitive RFP process and finalist interviews, District leadership selected Eppstein Uhen Architects as its planning partner. Community input is essential in shaping the final plan, and we look forward to inviting staff, parents, and residents to join in stakeholder engagement opportunities hosted by the District and EUA in the coming months. Stay tuned for more information!

Thank you for helping us kick off the 2026–27 school year on such a positive and welcoming note! We recently reviewed the results of our September 2026 Family Survey, and we appreciate your partnership and thoughtful feedback.
Here is a look at what you shared with us:
- MTSD achieved an overall Net Promoter Score of 55, matching last year’s strong rating, with elementary families accounting for 60% of all responses.
-
86% of new families enrolled because of our strong academic reputation.
-
93% report their children feel safe at school.
-
88% felt well-prepared and welcomed before day one.
-
85% of families transitioning to new buildings felt orientation eased the move.
Across the survey, families highlighted our dedicated teachers and strong academic programs as the top reasons they choose our schools.
We deeply appreciate your continued trust, engagement, and collaboration. Thank you for making us Proud to be MTSD!

All public school districts in Wisconsin must count pupils for membership on the third Friday in September and the second Friday in January. MTSD’s total enrollment as of September 18, 2026, is 3,502 students. This year’s enrollment aligns with our professional studies, which projected what would happen in our school district over the next 10 years, and we are pleased to see this growth in our school community exceed expectations. By level (elementary, middle, high), the most recent enrollment studies projected the current trend, including the dip in high school enrollment.

As we move into the winter months, we want to keep our students healthy, comfortable, and ready to learn. This is a great time to review simple health and hygiene habits that help prevent the spread of common illnesses.
Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease: This viral illness is common in younger children and usually begins with fever, sore throat, and small blisters on hands, feet, or in the mouth. Encourage frequent handwashing, covering coughs/sneezes, and keeping children home if they show symptoms.
Flu & Common Cold: These respiratory illnesses circulate widely in winter. Daily habits—like washing hands, using tissues, and avoiding touching the face—go a long way in preventing spread. If your child has a fever, vomiting, or a bad cough, please keep them home until symptoms improve.
COVID-19: COVID-19 continues to circulate at low levels. Families are encouraged to monitor symptoms, test when appropriate, and keep children home if they are ill. Good ventilation and regular hand-washing remain helpful tools for prevention.
Head Lice: Head lice are not dangerous, but they can spread quickly through close contact. Please remind children not to share hats, brushes, hair accessories, or headphones. If you notice your child scratching their head more than usual, check for lice and notify the school nurse if needed. Note: We have been informed that letters sent home to parents to prevent lice transmission may violate privacy and confidentiality. Parents do not have a legal right to information regarding a certain student’s health condition. As such, MTSD does not share information with parents or students regarding the presence of head lice in classrooms or schools. Please consider this update a recommendation that families take appropriate precautions.
Healthy Habits for All:
- Wash hands often with soap and water
- Cover coughs and sneezes
- Stay hydrated and get plenty of rest
- Keep children home when they are sick
