A colorful painting features a person in a straw hat and patterned tunic, holding a clay pitcher in one hand and a glass of juice in the other.
Congratulations to Homestead High School senior Liliana Espinosa, whose artwork earned second place in the Art category of Albricias, the Spanish Honor Society's publication! Her piece, “Entre los hilos de lana de makuñ,” was selected for the November 2026 issue, earning her national recognition and a $100 cash prize!
Inspired by her Argentine heritage, Liliana's artwork celebrates the culture and traditions of Argentina's Indigenous Mapuche people. Her drawing creatively explores the popular Argentine expression “ni chicha ni limonada” (“neither this nor that”), incorporating elements of traditional Mapuche clothing and culture to bring deeper meaning to the saying.
An accomplished artist and president of Homestead's National Art Honor Society, Liliana demonstrates how creativity can connect language, culture, and personal identity.
A special thank-you to her Spanish teacher, Señor Frets, for encouraging students to explore their heritage, express their creativity, and share their talents beyond the classroom!
